Chaz Davies could be competing in the final four MotoGP races of the season after Alex Hofmann was sensationally sacked from the Pramac D'Antin Ducati squad late last night.

Hofmann reportedly told his boss Luis D'Antin that he didn't have the motivation to race for the last positions just after he came into the pits with 17 laps remaining. D'Antin was so incensed, he sacked the German very soon afterwards.

A short statement from the team read: "The team management have decided to release Hofmann from his contractural obligations for the remainder of the 2007 MotoGP season."

It means that when the deal with Davies is confirmed later on today, he will board a plane and fly to Motegi to race the Ducati he first rode with only hours' notice at Laguna Seca in July.
